I've been busy "hooking"....

Where have I been lately? Hooking....(a rug!) Thought I meant something else didn't ya??? LOL
The one above is a rug I hooked for Lisa Dee of Vista Caballo ranch of her quarter horse Miss Hamoki Banks. At her web site you can see the picture of Miss Banks that I used; she is standing in a field of tall grass. This small rug is 9x13 inches hooked on linen backing.

This is the rug I am working on now. It's 17x17 inches, no ones horse in particular, just came out of my head. Not sure of the rest of the colors that will be in the rug, will post as I move along on it. Sometimes these rugs just pick their own colors and I just hook them.

A close up of the head, but click on the photos to see them larger. I try to hook the lines of wool in the direction of the hair, muscles and bone structure of the horse. I have done some horse portrait rugs for people and will have my web site up soon. Will post when it's up so you can go take a peek.

Back to hooking and watching old westerns, YAY, lots of horses to see there! How great is this, to get to work and watch movies too??? Wonderful!

Don't make any mistakes hookin' & watching those "Good Olde Westerns'..

Wow, those rugs are amazing! You are clearly very talented!

I thought of you and your bitless bridle today... How has that been going? I thought of it because we finally got Panama to stop rushing to get his bit in his mouth, but now he picked up a new habit -- refusing to let it go. I don't know if he likes his bit or likes the rides... but anyway, it made me wonder how Gilly is liking his bitless.

Jacque, thanks, yes he does seem to be watching you.

Marilyn, yes, Lisa was very happy with her rug. Funny you should mention Miss Kitty....I was watching Gunsmoke this evening while I was hooking! Miss Kitty wasn't telling if she was a hooker! LOL

Katharine, thanks so much! I haven't ridden Gilly for a month or more; it's been awhile! I could have ridden yesterday but didn't. It's been hard to ride since I don't have an indoor so the weather plays a big part in it. I won't ride unless I do ground work first. I will post when I get to work him again with it on. He did well the first time I rode him with it.

Elizabeth, thanks!

Val, thank you!

Jane, I wasn't thinking, of course you wouldn't be able to ride much in the winter. I have an indoor this year, but I still forget because in Colorado the ground tends to dry up nicely between snowstorms (the advantage of an arid climate). Looking forward to when you'll be able to ride -- and blog about it -- again!

HAHA!! I was hoping you could watch some good viewing stuff while you did your artwork!!
Absolutely cool...I sure want to win the lottery...build my own barn and go visiting my best friends here in Bloggerville! I would love to come see you, and learn how to do that fine art of "Hooking"!

I am very interested in your web page when you get that going!

Katharine, the ground here is all hooved up from the freeze and thawing that goes on all winter. If it's not frozen then it's mud and living down in a hollow there is a lot of mud. When I get a chance to work Gil on a day that's not too cold (can't take the cold like I used to)I will ride again and really test out the bitless.

Kacy, do win the lottery then you and Wa can come and see me and Gil and Pokey!!! We can sit on the porch and hook, I can teach you how! Watching old cowboy movies is a hoot!!!

Lisa, thanks so much!

Great work, miss hooker! Love that you're doing the way the hair goes.

Julie, by hooking the way the hair grows or the muscles lay it adds depth to the rug without going to another color. The eye will follow the lines of the hooked wool.
