Got this great magazine at Tractor Supply the other day when I was in there. Wonderful articles in it and something really interesting to me. Speaking donkey, you know talking to your donkey and what he means when he does certain things. Like for instance, Pokey with the head jerking, tail switching and stomping his feet. He's mad and he is letting me know it and that is also a bad attitude when it comes to feeding time. Bad Pokey!!!Well, the book said to stomp the ground hard, use your hand behind you butt like a tail switching it and glare at them to get a response. LOL I did this to Pokey, just the foot stomping, when he came to eat with his little bad ass attitude and it stopped him in his tracks! He backed up with a surprised look on his face, the ears came up and he looked at me with a much more pleasant look on his face and asked if he could eat.
Yes, we WILL be working on his manners, no more little brat like in the picture below. Ears back, head jerked up and tail switching. Now we will ask politely for our supper or breakfast!
Who knew a foot stomp could mean so much???

We saw a donkey on our trip out in a field and I was amazed at how big their heads are...well this one anyway.

Gail, yes, little Pokey has an opinion on a lot of things!
Sandy, he doesn't have very good manners just yet, but he will; or I will stomp my foot!!! Pokey's head looks big right now too, because of his winter hair. It will shed off in the summer.
Alice, yes, he is one of the cutest little guys I have seen, sigh, but then I'm his mom so I have to say that!
Angie, yes stomping and glaring would work for kids...LOL
That is so interesting, but makes such good sense! Good horse trainers use "horse body language" in their training. Horses don't really read us like we intend them to (like understand english, which we tend to think they do by talking to them so much :) but they can ready our body language!
Sarah, oh, yes the surprised look was priceless! He didn't know quite what to think of it and I was LMAO, at poor Pokey's expense....LOL...aren't I BAD!! :-)
The poor thing...LOL. But, you know...all animals must have a bit of respect. And, he will learn his manners! I can hear the foot stomping from here!

Michelle, I am glad I found the magazine, body language is different for donkeys, he doesn't always respond to the same thing that Gilly does. But they both seem to know some English, "NO" what will get their attention!
Jacque, yes the foot stomping has to be a hard stomp to mean something. Now if I could just learn to snort like he does!! LOL

Lisa, yes, BAD ASS is right! LOL The magazine is just a single issue I think. Couldn't find where you could subscribe to it. I would like to keep getting it, sooooo much good info in it.
