Took this picture last week and I would say that this lilac bush thinks spring is on the way. I hope so! It was warm a few days ago but yesterday and today it's in the 30's and windy...brrrrr! Still feels like winter to me. Last week Mike ripped up the garden and made it larger; then we shoveled manure from the backhoe bucket onto it.
A dressing of manure is great for the garden, we will be putting some pelleted lime on at some point also. Last night Mike came home and headed back out to get the tiller on the tractor to work the manure into the soil.
I snapped this picture from the upstairs window; could get a better view from up there.
Ahhh, garden all tilled and beautiful! In the coming week I will have to get the cabbages, broccoli, peas and potatoes to plant. Well, if the weather is cooperative.
This robin showed up to see if there were any worms for him to eat. Hope he found some!
What's this in the yard below the fence where the boys are??? Check the dark spot above the lettering in the picture.
Looks like the boys wanted to add one more piece of fertilizer, their input, to the garden. It didn't quite roll down the hill far enough though. Whose idea was that??? Pokey?

Oh, lilacs are my favorite! They just don't grow out here in the desert. Growing up, we would pick lilacs by the armfuls then ride home on our bikes with them!

Thanks all! Yes, the garden is pretty big this year. Planting more, and I will be canning more too. Have to find more hours in the day, I have to have SOME time for riding, don't you know???
I wish I had room for a big garden. I do have some small flower beds that I love to work in. Happy spring to you!

Your garden looks so fresh and ready to go. Hope you have a great crop this year of all good things to eat. Lilac's are one of my favorites, and i can't wait for them to bloom, I love their smell.

Ohhh I bet it smells around there!! Loved the photos and our weather went from 80 to winter storm almost overnight...but it's moving out fast.
I can't wait to see the growth going on in that garden.
Cowgirljlynn, thanks! I used to have flower beds but too much to take care of with the BIG garden...gave them up to play with horse! :-)
Margo, I need a BIG garden to feed us! Jennifer (daughter) gets some of it too. I have been gardening and canning for years and years. One year I didn't have one though, that's the year we had a flood that covered where the garden was! Good thing I didn't have one, it would have all washed away.
Grey Horse Matters, I can't wait to have it all planted! Then I will take pictures of it growing so you all can see! This will be the second year for the lilacs. Hope I have huge bunches of them!
Kacy, yes I thought the poo ball was pretty funny! One escaped and rolled down into the yard. It had to be a Gilly, cause it was BIG!
Haven't gotten to ride but maybe tomorrow afternoon. Mike took the tractor tiller and tilled the whole round pen for me!!! Now it's nice soft dirt and I can smooth it out with a drag, oh, boy!!!
Sandy, our weather was in the 70's last week and in the high 50's this week. No snow or rain and hopefully it will stay nice till I get the garden vegetables I need to plant now. (And get to ride!!!!
You are so much more ambitious than I. I start out with great intentions. I'm great at the prep and planting, but I lose interest in weeding and insect control. I'm the same way when it comes to ornamentals.
