The adventures of Gilly the rescue horse and his side kick and partner in crime, Pokey the donkey.

More big tree clean up

Our neighbor, Randy in the bucket of the backhoe watching Mike getting ready to pull a part of the huge oak out of the creek. This was a couple of weeks ago and we all worked for 5 hours cleaning up some of the mess.  Didn't get it all done though.
Mike, Randy and Craig all looking over what is still in the creek. They had just gotten out a big log that had been down in the water. You can see all that is left up on the hill yet to be removed.

Big log coming out of the creek. It's a good thing they got it out cause a few days later we had on heck of a rain storm and it flooded the road and took a lot of the debris with it. I mean cleaned it off and removed some of the dirt on top of the rock baskets in the creek bank. The big log remained and this weekend Mike and I got it cut up and taken to the neighbors. Now the bank is clean again, but there are some holes I have to fill. It was a great weekend to be outside, wish I had been riding Gilly instead of cleaning up tree trash!

I am hoping that the coming week is nice, I wanna ride! Poor Gilly though, he has a lot of winter hair and gets pretty hot real quick. Poor outa shape slug.....LOL....just like me!!!

Friday ride

Had a pretty nice ride today about an hour long. It's been so rainy, gloomy and overcast that I almost didn't ride. The weather has been so rainy and stormy that we haven't gotten our first cutting of hay in. It doesn't look good for the coming week either. I thought a nice ride would make me feel better about it.
First we headed back the hollow on our property (all of these pictures were taken last week but I can't take pictures of myself soooo, I cheated a bit!)

Then we headed down the road, Lucy and Gonzo were tagging along also. Pokey couldn't go so he was mad, as usual. We rode past Kim's house and Lacy and Coco came running out to see Gilly. I let him stop to sniff noses and say hi to the girls, when we went on down the road. He is getting better only hesitated a couple of times and wanted to go back. We went quite a way down the road before turning to come back toward home. The ground here is so wet that Gilly's feet are a little tender and he didn't want to walk much on the gravel road. I let him walk on the grassy shoulder.

He needed a drink from the creek on the way back; licking the water off his lips.

Sunday Tractor Ride

I wanted to get this posted last night but didn't get it done so here it is today. Yesterday Mike and I were outside and he got the John Deere diesel out to run it for a bit. Hadn't had it out for awhile so it needed to run for a bit. He had gone back the hollow to our shed to check things out and came back to tell me about and iced water fall in one of the ravines. I couldn't get a really good picture of it but if you click on the picture it will enlarge.

So here is the first shot of it, there are trees and limbs sticking out of it. Wonder what else has frozen in there? I need to climb up there, when the weather is better to take some pictures of the rocks. I have climbed there before but didn't have the camera.

Below is the tractor we went back on; not a really comfortable ride for me. Sitting on the fender and having to turn your feet different ways to get a good place to stand and sit. I sure wouldn't want to ride for a long way like that.

Here is a close up of the rocks you can see just ahead of the tractor. Look at all the moss on them. It was so bright green, what a beautiful color!

This is looking at the stream heading to the shed. This stream connects to the larger creek that splits our hay field and runs along the road. The shed is just out of sight to the right. Below is a short video I did of the stream; it sounded so good that I wanted to share it with you. I also will at some point video the creek in front of the house. It makes more noise and I get to hear it everyday, love the sound!
